This podcast has to be by far the most fun-filled I have ever done. Because I had not one, not two, but three guests with me. They are the co-founders of ‘Avalon’, an alternative online education platform that teaches you skills relevant to the present-day world to help you develop the tools & mindset you need for building extraordinary careers. And recently created ‘Scenes’, a social media platform that connects like-minded people to find and develop comprehensive communities via an extensive library of channels!

The team with me is Varun Mayya, Shashank Udupa, and Abhinav Arora. They are creative geniuses who came together to build this tremendous virtual environment for people to grow. The podcast was nothing less than a laugh riot. They shared funny anecdotes and some insight on how their journey has been.

Sharing parts of the conversation I had with them about building a successful business and what are the core values that you will need:

1. Embrace your creativity

We all have thought about starting our own business or being our boss at some point or another. It is impossible not to love the concept of flexible work hours and no pressure from the boss.
Despite the overwhelming flow of ideas in our minds, only a few are implemented. You need to let your creativity run wild if you are determined to start your own business. Gather all your ideas, sort them out, then begin working on them. If you can execute even one of them as you planned. You are on the right path.

2. Keep evolving with your skills every day

The ideas that you want to put into practice are born out of your skillset. A content creator will think on the lines of her talent and then come up with an idea. So always try to improve your skills regularly. Learn something every day. Learning makes our minds sharp and see things from more than one perspective.
Also, sharpening your skills will give you the confidence to start on your own.
One thing that should be kept in mind is that we need to be consistent. Consistency is the key to success not only professionally but in every aspect of life.
So keep learning.

3. Communicating effectively is crucial

Communication is the basis of networking. So how you put yourself out there matters a lot.
Effective communication means conveying your message in a precise manner. You lose people’s attention the longer you spend explaining your ideas. Also, most of the time, the train of thought can end up at the wrong station.
Communication is essential to maintain human relationships. Even when you set up your own business, it will be the most crucial part of managing your team. An effective business communication aligns your co-workers with your company’s values. Hence, communication is the key to build your worth.
There are a few ways by which you can practice effective communication in a workspace:

  • Share your knowledge with your team members.
  • Focus on a problem-solving approach.
  • Encourage disagreements and different opinions of colleagues regardless of their position in the team.
  • Encourage brainstorming sessions with your team.

4. Stay true to your core values and be credible

Integrity and credibility are the two other essential values that you must uphold. It isn’t easy to convince someone you don’t know to trust you. However, you can gain their trust by demonstrating your skills and talent using your past experiences and projects. It takes a little push to make your business stand out in this constantly crowded world of new businesses. Show them that you are capable of the task at hand.
Show that you are willing to go the extra mile to get the job done by making yourself accessible. You will benefit from this in the long run.
Nevertheless, your values cannot be compromised. You would lose all credibility if you did that, and it would be tough for you to do so again.

5. The development of your company is helped by networking

One person cannot possess knowledge of the world. Everyone has different experiences and skills which they use to get their point across. That is why networking helps you get close to people who come from different backgrounds and share their experiences with you.
Having a good network will expose you to different information available, which will help you get a fresh outlook. Networking enables you to share experiences and knowledge. It provides a platform for you to grow.

6. Make a statement

The world is filled with blooming businesses and ventures. It gets challenging to make a mark. To stand out, you must follow the points mentioned. I feel credibility has the most crucial role in helping you to stand out.
The pace at which the world is changing is impressive. But you should be able to match up its speed to make a statement.

Evolve every day. That is the key.

7. Luck will play its cards

After all the work you put into building your company. All the hard work and ideas that you worked through leave the rest to your luck.
Always trust your gut feelings and never shy away from taking risks. Do not fear failures, and by your hard work, you can eventually create your luck because there is no shortcut to success.

The knowledge I gained from the podcast is something I will never forget. I got to know so many things about content creation and the ever-expanding world of start-ups. It was a rather memorable experience for me.

I hope you will enjoy the podcast as much as I did hosting it.
