When you are building your team, you obviously want to hire the best. You arrange a meticulous screening test and choose only those whose ideals align with your company goals. But as a founder or manager or CEO, you also have to know how to retain your employees. When you have 5–6 capable people, you work on your goals and allocate tasks accordingly. However, if someone quits suddenly, the entire plan gets disrupted and you have to begin the whole process all over again. So, just like you have to put effort to find and recruit the best people, you also have to make equal, if not more, effort to keep them in your company. 1. Giving appropriate compensation
Recruit people who fit your budget. Fresh graduates usually have lower salary expectations, whereas experienced professionals often require a competitive salary package to reflect their expertise and value. There’s no denying the fact that at the end of the day, we all choose a career or job opportunity based on what perks we are getting. Do a bit of research, if you cannot decide on the number. Talk to people who are working in the same industry and have more experience in this matter. No matter how interesting or satisfying the job is, no one will be willing to work for you if the package isn’t attractive enough.
If you are unable to fit in what an employee is expecting then you can always counteract it with perks such as covering lunch or transportation, providing decent accommodation or data packs if it is a remote job, among others.
2. Appreciation
This is a very important factor to boost employee motivation and loyalty. They may be your employee or your subordinates but that shouldn’t give you the right to talk to them in a disrespectful manner. Acknowledge and value their efforts, regardless of how small they may seem. Talk to them courteously. If you have to give some negative feedback, do so privately, so that they do not feel humiliated. If you do not like someone’s work, insead of reprimanding them, explain to them how their action is affecting the company directly.
Make them feel seen and valued. Make them feel like they are a part of the company. Listen to the suggestions they have to offer. Once they feel they are important for the company, the loyalty will only increase.

No one wants to work in the same position for a long period. They want to take their career forward and grow. If you, as the employer, fail to provide them with such opportunities, they will have no option but to take up another offer. So, keep the opportunities of growth open.
When you promote the benefits they can avail, the employees will naturally become motivated to grab that opportunity. Provide them with necessary training and development opportunities for career advancement.
4. Do away with toxic culture
A company can only grow if there is enough trust between the employer and employee. Cultivate a relationship where they feel comfortable turning to you whenever they encounter challenges. Your workplace should be safe and inclusive.
Include recreational activities so that everyone can take breaks and rejuvenate. There should not be any toxicity hampering the potential of employees.
