Cicero said, “A thankful heart is not only the greatest virtue but the parent of all the other virtues.” Positive emotions, including joy and contentment, are amplified when we acknowledge the good in life because it allows us to slow down.

However, in reality, it is often elementary to get caught up in the fast lane, lose track of what you need, and miss out on showing appreciation for what you already have. The key to living a meaningful and fulfilling life is to be thankful for what you have.

So, here I am. 5 ways to express gratitude daily to help you along the way.

1. Be appreciative of everything

You do not have to save your gratitude for life’s big moments — it can be used for everything in your life. Gratitude is an attitude that starts by appreciating all the good things in life and recognizing that there is nothing too small that you can be thankful for in life.
It doesn’t matter if it is something as simple as expressing gratitude for the first cup of hot coffee or how you got your favourite parking spot. You should make sure to practice gratitude in every way you can.

2. Become mindful

Spend time each day thinking about five to ten things for which you are grateful in your life. It would help if you had a picture of it in your mind and felt the emotion of gratitude in your body as you visualize it. You’ll start feeling happier after every session if you do this every day, as this will gradually rewire your brain to be naturally more grateful, and you’ll get used to it more quickly.
As you practice gratitude, your brain will become more receptive to it, making gratitude easier to feel.

3. Gratitude journaling

Create a daily practice in which you remind yourself of all the good things you have in your life and the gifts, graces and benefits you value. You will be better positioned to interweave a lasting theme of gratitude in your life if you dedicate an hour a day to recalling moments of gratitude connected with ordinary events, attributes, or people you hold in high regard.

4. Express yourself

A simple thank you isn’t enough sometimes. To increase your feelings of gratitude, you need to express that same gratitude to those people who are close to you.
A simple expression of gratitude can not only make the day of someone you appreciate a little better, but it can do wonders for increasing your gratitude and happiness in the long run.

5. Spend time with your loved ones

In the present moment, if you are having a difficult time feeling grateful, spend time with your friends and family. It will undoubtedly help you build a stronger relationship with them, but it will also give you a chance to practice your acts of gratitude on people you care about, which can benefit you.

From improving our mental health to enhancing our relationships with others, practising gratitude can be a game-changer. The little gains in life become more apparent when you live your life with gratitude. Over time, you become more able to notice the positive aspects of life as each small moment strings together.

Being grateful doesn’t have to be complicated. Practice is all it takes. Focusing more on what you are thankful for will give you more reasons to be grateful!
