5 Reasons to Pursue Career as a Doctor
Choosing a profession in medicine is not an easy decision to make, mostly because a career in this field demands a lot of perseverance, tenacity, mental strength and spending most of your life educating yourself. So, for starters, if your fascination for being a doctor evolves from the “operation playset” we used to play with in our childhood, you must re-evolve yourself and step into it only if you absolutely want to. Having said that, being a doctor comes with a lot of perks and I am here to discuss the same today.
1. Directly helping people in need
Being a doctor means you are actually doing some good in society, making a difference directly. Taking care of some debilitated persons is no easy task. Especially, in a country like India where hundreds and thousands of people die every year from some ailment or other. Being a doctor means you will be able to understand and take consequent measures to fix that. Through this, you might be saving a family. Imagine living a life that has such a meaningful impact on society!
2. Different career options
A career in medicine may be more than just becoming a doctor. You can do research and work on developing a cure for disease. You can also become a part of an R&D team of cosmetic or pharmaceutical companies and help in producing medicines or other wellness products. You will have an opportunity to explore the different branches of science, and it might be a gratifying objective for many. You can also choose to teach and influence young minds on ways to take on society.
3. Respect and esteem
The respect a doctor receives in our society is ample and well deserving. The moment you are a doctor, people start to see you and your family differently. Not that any of it matters to a doctor who is here to save our lives. But we are all a social animal and esteem and respect in a society or as a human being is something we all crave for consciously or unconsciously and well, this is one of those professions that gets you a golden ticket into it.
4. Stable job
Medicine is a field whose demand will never go down. It’s just how the world works. And this profession can also bring job security; something that we all want. Also, the pay is great if you are working in the urban and metropolitan landscape. Being a doctor is considered a noble profession, and such menial things should not matter. But at the end of the day, it is a job, and like anyone else, those in this profession also have to navigate the humdrum realities of life.
5. Be a leader and problem solver
Being a doctor often means that you could lead others in a medical board and take the steps necessary in demanding and critical situations. This profession also requires you to be a problem solver, sometimes you might face patients with so many complications, then it will be up to you how you want to reach a solution.
Being a doctor is honestly leading a life with purpose, where each day counts and no matter how tiring and taxing the day is, you smile when you see the relieved faces of patients’ relatives waiting outside closed doors. This profession might be demanding but it is also rewarding, I mean you are literally saving lives here. Nothing short of superheroes. In a country such as India, we need more doctors, especially in rural and urban areas where their presence can make a significant impact on the well-being of the community.
