Playing video games has fascinated everyone for a long time now. From school kids to office workers, it has charmed everyone alike. Sure, there are drawbacks like getting hooked and letting it define your whole personality. But if you look at the brighter sides of things, you will realize there is so much more to gain if you can keep it in check. Here’s some of the things I discussed with Nitish Mittersain, founder and CEO of Nazara Technologies.

1. Career opportunities

If you are serious about gaming, you can think of taking it up as a career. You can be a professional gamer, you can stream games online, you can be a game developer, game designer, among others. But for that, you need to be serious in what you do and actually be good at it. Many universities across the globe offer courses and higher studies in gaming, so if you are privileged enough, you can get yourself enrolled and shine.

2. Decision-making ability

Gaming is all about that adrenaline rush. As you proceed through the levels you need to make important decisions along the way. You need to decide which shots to let go and which to strike against. The more you play, the better your decision-taking skill is. It goes without saying that this skill is very important and will help you a lot throughout your life.

3. Multitasking and teamwork

Gamers often have to do multiple things while playing a game, which gives them an edge in real life. You can complete all your daily tasks more efficiently and you will be able to tick off tasks faster. Gaming also teaches you to be a team player. There are many games which you cannot play alone, you need to play with a friend, and depend on that person for winning. You discuss strategies and help each other out. In jobs and many more scenarios throughout your life, you would require this bonding skill.

4. Attention to details

Dealing with real-life problems, studies, or running a business often requires attention to detail, and gaming can help hone that skill. When you are playing a game you need to be very attentive to where your enemies are coming from and is there any secret threat whatsoever. All of this increases your observation capability and you can notice it very easily when something is askew.

5. Stress relief and relaxation

In the fast-paced modern world, stress is an inevitable companion. Video games offer a constructive outlet for stress relief and relaxation. Immersing oneself in a virtual world can provide a much-needed escape from the pressures of everyday life. The engaging nature of video games triggers the release of dopamine, the “feel-good” neurotransmitter, promoting a sense of accomplishment and joy. It’s a healthy way to unwind and decompress, as long as it’s balanced with other activities.

Video games can be more than just entertainment and killing time. You can make it your career and you can unwind from your tiring day with this. It also undoubtedly helps in enhancing cognitive elements along with others. So, if you are passionate about gaming, here’s your chance to explain to everyone why it is a good thing.

Well, I do talk about a lot of things. Here’s where you will find them.
