3 Ways Technology Can Help to Stay Healthy
Technology is literally both a blessing and a bane. In 2024, we cannot imagine life without technology. But we are often advised to stay away from phone and social media because it can lead to some serious problems. However, it is all about perspective. You can literally turn around technology and use it in a way that would help you be healthy. Here are some of the ways you can do so, as discussed with founder of Noise, Gaurav Khatri.
1. Measuring steps and calories burnt
Previously this feature of counting calories was only accessible to athletes and sportspersons. Now, thanks to digital watches and phone trackers, we can check the number of steps we have walked by the swish of our wrists. All dieticians and nutritionists advise us to take at least 5K, if not 10K steps each day. Especially for people with desk jobs, this is of utmost importance. You know what they say: sitting is the new smoking. So, you do not want to be on that end of the spectrum. You can maybe take the longer route to the office, take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk around during lunch breaks or during a phone call. And at the end of the day, calculate all of that. On days, you have walked less than your desired amount, you can make up for the same the following day and the number under calorie burnt will just boost your oxytocin.
2. Tracking your diet
Not just for people who want to lose weight, but watching what you consume is important for everyone. As we all know, a calorie deficit is the key to losing weight, and how do you do that? You take the help of apps and scaling machines who will tell you the calories you have consumed. That way you will know whether you are on the right track or not. You can also plan your meal with the help of these apps. Cannot think of what to eat for lunch? Turn to diet apps and that would help you. However, it is advisable to not trust these apps’ suggestions blindly, especially when it comes to choosing your diet. You must consult a dietician for the same and listen to their advice.
3. Mental health
When I say health, I also mean mental health. When I am talking about leading a healthy lifestyle, I am also talking about being healthy from inside. And guess what? Technology has a solution for that as well. Because your emotional well-being must be your number one priority. There are apps which offer guided meditation, relaxation exercises, and mood tracking tools, empowering you to keep a tab of your mental wellness. There are also platforms that offer virtual fitness classes, wellness challenges, and expert-led sessions, creating a holistic approach to health that boosts your mental well-being. However, it is important to note that if you need some serious help, you must consult a doctor or expert and not let a random app dictate you what to do. Because another human being will understand what you are feeling much better than the AI.
There are other ways technology can help you as well, such as tracking your sleep so you know how much deep sleep you got. You can also monitor your stress and heart beat level via gadgets, all of which help you to understand how your body works. There are other gadgets that help you track blood sugar level, and some that would help you purify the air in your room. As you embrace these advancements, it opens up a world of possibilities for a healthier, more fulfilling future.
