3 Things to Keep In Mind When Using Dating Apps
Dating apps are a new craze at the moment. All you need to do is swipe right and bam! You have landed yourself a date next Saturday. The cool thing is, nobody’s passing judgment on your preferences, and who knows, if not a date, you might score a great friend too. However, these dating apps also lead to untoward incidents. So, here are a few things to keep in mind when using dating apps.
1. Legitimate accounts
Before you start talking or for that matter, even swipe right, make sure that the account is all legitimate. How to check that? Check whether they have a profile picture, a bio, and a few other details. If you feel like this is a fake name, it is better to not engage with that account. Trust your sixth sense. You’ll sense if someone is being overly cool or sketchy — and well, that is your sign to discontinue talking. If you feel awkward or threatened or manipulated, feel free to bow out immediately.
2. Do not share too much
Do not start talking about personal stuff right away. Wait at least a few weeks to see what kind of vibe they are giving out. You may be taking a liking for the other person but it is important to know whether their intention is good or not. Especially for girls, it is important to avoid any topic related to your neighborhood or office. Also no need to show off either. Wait for things to unfold naturally and then step by step you can start opening up.
3. Keep the conversation limited to the app
At least the first few weeks, if not more, it is advisable to keep the conversation within the app. Do not give away your private social media IDs to random strangers. Because that has a lot of stuff in it that gives away too much information about you. In fact, it is better to not link any social media account to your dating profile. Only if you feel like taking it to the next level or you feel comfortable then share your ID. There too, you might want to keep it to just Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. Do not give away your WhatsApp number.
There are a few other things as well. When meeting someone at places like restaurants or cafes, where there are plenty of people around, it’s crucial to keep a friend or relative in the loop about your whereabouts. I know, I know, I have taken half of the fun of online dating. But you need to be cautious and careful because these are unfamiliar waters and you may drown easily. So, it is better to be careful than to be sorry.
