3 Reasons Why You Should Leap into Entrepreneurship

Not quitting your day job while trying to make it as an entrepreneur is probably the most practical advice someone will give you today. You have a burning passion, an itch that you just need to scratch. But you have a life to live, people to take care of and a hundred other responsibilities as well. This makes so much sense.

Or so I thought.

After speaking with CarDekho CEO Co-founder, Amit Jain, I realized that for some people the more logical advice won’t work. Again, this won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. But in case you are one of those who are struggling to take the safer route of keeping a day job while pursuing your passion, this blog is for you. Here’s why you should take the leap-

1. You are the master of your own time

Different people have different priorities. And some people just can’t work when tied to others’ timelines. When you have your own business, you get to choose when to work. Don’t be mistaken. It’s not as rosy as you having to work only when you choose to work. There will be days when you will have to pull all nighters or miss multiple family functions etc.Being a master of your time means you doing what you want to spend that time doing. What to leave that excel sheet for end-of-the-day? Go ahead. Drafting a new business strategy at 4 in the morning? No one cares.

This flexibility also opens you up to spend more time with family and friends, and be there when they need you.

2. Choose your people

Have you ever wondered why so many employees keep complaining that they hate their jobs? Well, quite often, it’s not the job that they hate but face a lack of supportive culture. Today, if you don’t grow, it takes just a year on an average for your skills and knowledge to be irrelevant. So to continuously evolve, you need people around you who are an intellectual match. Only when your brain is stimulated enough will you be interested to put yourself out there on that steep learning curve. You are who you surround yourself with. Not having the right people around you can even affect your mental health.

Building a business gives you the scope to build something meaningful together by onboarding people with a similar vision. This way, you’ll have a better quality of conversations.

3. Brings humility

Running a business is like taking care of a child. It demands everything from you, without any promise of ROI. It needs constant monitoring, all your attention, all your energy.

When you are flying in and out 4–5 times a month at the expense of your employer, things are largely different. Mainly because you don’t feel that pocket pinch. However, with a business, you see where every penny comes from. Your entire mindset shifts from wanting luxury and comfort to doing what’s best for your business. And more importantly, being an entrepreneur teaches you humility. The more nos you hear, the stronger your determination grows and you become more accepting of people’s circumstances.

If you are passionate about your business, believe that you can do it and go for it. All businesses are risky at the end of the day. So why wait for anything? Capitalize your time and energy NOW.
