Today the moment someone says the word marriage, we associate it with all sorts of negative things. Divorces are now on the flip side of marriages, and undoubtedly have changed the way our society has been set up. This is definitely a controversial topic in this day and age. But we have to understand that while for some marriages it’s best when it’s undone, there are multiple reasons to stay in a marriage as well. I spoke with India’s famous Divorce Lawyer Vandana Shah on the changing scenario around marriages to understand this further. According to her experience, while she feels blessed to have been part of someone’s liberation journey in certain cases, in quite a few cases she would have liked a different decision from clients. Here are 3 reasons why marriage still has a lot of value as an institution-

1. There are no perfect partners

We always want to get the best deal that’s out there. So we keep looking for the bigger and better option. This tendency of getting greedy and wishing for just a tad bit more can ruin something truly beautiful. Till the time that you keep searching for that perfect partner, you will be met with disappointment every single time. This also puts an immense pressure on you to become “perfect” which is also not possible. People’s individuality lies in their idiosyncrasies, so instead of looking at those as issues, cherish them and work through things together.

2. Creates vital social bond

You will often hear from parents how being rooted in family is important. Now, marriage is obviously no joke. It’s hard work, and definitely nothing close to what Bollywood depicts. Love and emotions are a part of marriage. But the truth of the matter is, for a marriage to work, a lot more needs to be there apart from love. Both parties need to compromise on a few things. Marriages are also a great way to build a family of your own. Kids require a lot of attention and dealing with that on the daily you’ll be working on your communication skills everyday.

3. Makes life more predictable

Adventures are great but not everyone likes to be an adrenaline junkie. Some people crave the security of life’s everyday sameness. This predictability can bring a sense of calm and comfort for those seeking it. There is also a lot of joy in knowing someone for years and being shown love and care the same way as before.

You might have a completely different perspective on marriage, but there are still tons of people who like the idea of being with someone for a long time.
