Every time a new technology has evolved, there has always been this gripping fear. The fear of the unknown. If we go back to the 15th century, when the printing press was discovered, people were apprehensive regarding how it will affect their lives and the existing jobs. But look at how far we have come today. People also feared when computers were invented. Can we imagine a world without computers now? 1. Creativity and innovation
Every work that humans do requires a certain level of creativity. Any kind of work that we are doing is original. Reading, hearing, or seeing something inspires us, and then we reiterate that with our thoughts. I don’t think AI is capable of thoughts as such. Working on given instructions? Maybe, yes. When the idea of Zomato or Blinkit was made, it wasn’t AI thinking. A human realized the need to get food and groceries delivered. And how did AI help in the process? It helped by suggesting your favorite restaurants, tracking the delivery time, etc.
Creativity and imagination are primal features of human beings. They cannot be taught. They have been there since you were born. And the more you grow up, ingenuity starts taking concrete shapes.
2. Absence of emotion
Artificial intelligence may give you a precise answer to predict the weather for your trip on the weekend. But the frustration you feel if it starts raining randomly and your favorite shoes get muddy is inherently yours. Emotion is alien to AI. When someone suggests ways to grow your business, they ask you to tell a story that everyone will connect to. That will help you reach out to the audience. But you can share a story because you feel an emotion; others will hear it because they will relate with that emotion and support you.
Empathy is crucial in various fields, such as counseling, therapy, and customer service. The ability to establish trust and build meaningful relationships through empathy is something that AI algorithms cannot replicate, making human interaction indispensable in many professional domains.
3. Questions of ethics
Ethical considerations are vital in various fields, such as law, medicine, and governance. Humans possess a moral compass that guides their decision-making, enabling them to make choices based on values, principles, and a sense of right and wrong. AI algorithms, on the other hand, cannot understand complex moral dilemmas or make nuanced ethical judgments.
AI can help put safety measures in trains, but the driver must make the key decision in real time. It will help you write a fabulous article for your newspaper. However, it is the writers’ duty to consider whether it infringes upon someone’s dignity and privacy. Integrating ethical considerations in decision-making is a human quality that AI cannot replicate.
The idea that AI can replace humans is flawed. AI lacks many essential human traits that differentiate us from other beings on Earth. You may not like AI, but you definitely cannot ignore it. In a few years, schools and institutions will adopt AI and make it part of the curriculum. So the best way here is to coexist with artificial technology, not make it our enemy.
