The best job in the world will always be the one you love doing most. There can be no further arguments about that. However, some professions impact society at large. Teaching is one such profession.

On my podcast Figuring Out, I had a heart-to-heart with Abhinay Sharma. He is a math teacher and founder of Abhinay Maths. As you can expect, education was at the forefront of our discussions. And here, we spoke about why teaching is the best profession.

I have listed 3 such reasons here, so you can decide for yourself if this is a path you want to pursue.

1. Teachers inspire the next generation

We form many core memories in our childhood. One of them is waiting eagerly for the classes of our favorite teachers. This proves the impression they leave on young minds has a lasting effect.

Being the best teacher is not about being the most gentle or strict. There is no one particular characteristic that is etched in our memory. Rather, it is about how they encouraged us to learn, even when we thought we could not.

Teachers keep inspiring generation after generation. No other profession can claim to have inspired as many people as teachers have. They are always proud of our achievement like it is their own. So, they are always ready to push us to move forward.

2. Teachers are learners too

When you stop learning, you stop growing. For teachers, this learning phase never ends. This constant pursuit of knowledge and desire for improvement ensures teachers are lifelong learners too.

Everything keeps changing in this constantly evolving world — from subject curriculum to instruction methods. This means teachers need to keep learning to keep themselves updated.

Apart from technological changes, new discoveries may often change the content of a course. Remember all the fuss with Pluto? Or what happens when archaeologists unearth a gold-covered mummy older than the ones we read in history books? People from many other professions can choose to ignore these facts. However, teachers always keep learning.

3. Teachers have high job security

Modern time has paved the way for many unique careers. It has also given rise to the fear of losing jobs. No matter which job AI decides to replace, teaching is certainly not on the list.

Schools, colleges, and universities will always need teachers. They play a critical role in shaping the future of society. Whether we face a pandemic or deal with a recession, we will never stop sending our children to schools. As a result, this profession has high job security.

Teaching as a profession certainly has its perks. Even if you are not a conventional teacher at an educational institute, you can always choose to educate people about things you are passionate about. Imparting your knowledge of how to knit a sweater or how to bake cookies makes you a teacher. You can even do that professionally once you get a few students.
