I firmly believe that if you do a job you enjoy, you will never have to work a single day. And it’s true. Passion doesn’t let you sleep till you have achieved your goal. Having said that, it is also essential to take breaks so that you can rejuvenate and get back to work harder. This is a time when we are highlighting and promoting self-love and self-care. Work-life balance fits right in that self-care puzzle.

If you take a break, it does not mean you love your work less. It just means you know how to strike a balance in life and recharge yourself so productivity doesn’t take a dip. Here are a few ways you can improve your work-life balance.

1. Key is finding balance

When I say work-life balance, it doesn’t mean you complete your work by 6 pm and hang out with your friends and family after that. It may be possible for a few days but not forever. And since you have mentally prepared yourself to work till a particular time, you will find it frustrating if you cannot log out by then. Hence, this is not much of a realistic plan.

So what is it? You have to be fluid and sort out your priority. If you have a deadline, you have to work late. On other days, you will have more time to pursue your hobbies. As I said, balance is the key. And it is achieved over time.

2. Have a vacation to look forward to

When you know you will have a stressful period at work, plan your vacation immediately after that. That will help you stay motivated. Every time you feel a bit low, you know you have a holiday to look forward to. The length of the vacation doesn’t count. It can be a weekend getaway or a seven-day trip to the mountains; either way it is an excellent source for unwinding.

When you finally go for that vacation, isolate yourself from work. Do not entertain any official phone calls, or emails during holidays, and similarly stop scrolling through social media while working. Post-pandemic, we also have the option of workcation: you can travel while working — a practical solution to improve your work-life balance.

3. Do something you love

You will get too many tips on improving your work-life balance if you search the internet. But let me reiterate what I said earlier, if you do something you love, you will not feel that burnout. And this is so important for everyone to remember. If you are stuck in a job that makes you unhappy, no vacation or break can fix that. You will always feel fatigued and tired.

In fact, even if you get to spend adequate time with your family, it will not suffice. So you have to address the root of the problem. You have to do something you are passionate about, without caring what others say about it. Do what you want to do. You will see the difference for yourself. Even then you will need to take breaks, but you will also be excited to get back to work.

If you want to ace your work-life balance, you must be a pro at time management. You will have to know your priorities and keep up with them. It may seem too much but you will get used to it. Finding the balance cannot be achieved overnight. However, if you are struggling and feeling burdened, despite everything, maybe it’s time to consult a professional.
