Every Indian is familiar with the persona of the legend Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. The journey from a small village in South India to the Rashtrapati Bhavan is tremendous and awe-inspiring. Known as the Missile Man of India, he has made significant contributions to advancements in Indian Space programs. A person who was loved by all and had taken his last breath while being with students inspires everyone far and wide. Here are three key lessons students and every individual can learn from him.

1. Being humble

Dr. Kalam was known for his humility. He has always led a simple life. He had an outstanding career, so no, he was not forced to live a simple life due to lack of resources. However, he remembered the struggle and sacrifice of his parents and stayed true to his roots. I have previously talked about Ratan Tata and how he, too, had always been a down-to-earth person.

Hence, to achieve greatness and success, it’s crucial to avoid excessive pomp and grandeur, refraining from showing off. If you have the necessities of your life — roof, food, and clothes — consider yourself lucky and privileged and strive towards achieving more. Achievements that not only uplift you but also the society.

2. To focus on your dreams

There is a famous quote by Dr. Kalam with which we are all familiar with:

“A dream is not that which you see while sleeping; it is something that does not let you sleep.”

He has always believed this throughout his life. Focus on your target and not sway away from it, come what may. Every individual must find their passion and goal and work towards it. If you are happy with what you are doing, you will always achieve success. No one can stop you.

If you look at his life, he made several contributions to the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and thus earned the name Missile Man of India. But he did not stop there. He expounded on his vision of India in 2020. He wanted India to focus on infrastructure, education and healthcare, information and communication technology, agriculture, and space and defense technology.

3. Being courageous

Failure is an inevitable part of life, but Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam taught students that it doesn’t define one’s worth. His experiences, including setbacks in his projects, remind students that failure is not the end but a stepping stone toward success. Kalam’s ability to bounce back from disappointments showcases the importance of resilience and a positive attitude.

Students often face academic or personal setbacks, and Kalam’s words offer solace and motivation. He advises them to view failures as opportunities for growth and learning. Kalam’s story teaches students that success is not instantaneous but results from persistent efforts, learning from mistakes and maintaining unwavering faith in oneself.

Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam’s legacy continues to influence students worldwide in remarkable ways. His life is a burning example of what you can achieve if you are dedicated, humble, and true to your dreams. As students and individuals, we must draw inspiration from this visionary leader. Just as Kalam believed, they can spread their wings and soar to new heights!
