Gen Z is the generation born roughly between the years 1997 and 2011. Gen Z is one of the most discussed generations at present, because they have been breaking the mold everywhere, they want to take the less traveled way. Recently, I was talking to Sandeep Das, author and storyteller, on my podcast Figuring Out, where I tried to figure out the ways Gen Z is different. Here’s what Sandeep thinks.

1. Inclusion and diversity

Most people of this generation exhibit a lack of biases. A generation that doesn’t judge someone on the basis of their race, color or sexuality. Instead, they embrace a liberal and aware mindset. This generation places a high value on inclusivity, equity, and social justice, and they are actively working to break down barriers and challenge stereotypes. They are not content with mere tolerance; they demand genuine acceptance and equality for all.

This generation’s inclusive mindset is reshaping workplaces, schools, and communities, making them more equitable and harmonious. In fact they are ready to sideline their favorite brand if it does not align with their values and ideals. They prioritize companies that are environmentally conscious, socially responsible, and inclusive in their marketing and hiring practices. This consumer behavior is pushing corporations to become more ethical and sustainable, leading to positive changes in various industries.

2. Their ideology

Gen Z is a generation that may look like they know nothing but the reality is completely different. They have fixed goals, they know when to do what. They want to venture into multiple things, not just a set job. They invest early and understand the value of savings for the future. But they also want to enjoy life and give into the moment. Gen Z has given a major boost to the travel industry. They prefer to rent out a place and rely on cabs and would invest that money on something nice.

In fact, they do not care about their background, they know what they have, what they can get and they set out for the same. It is because of them that content creation, vlogging is an actual career now. No one could have thought that 20 years ago.

3. Tech savvy

One of the most defining features of Gen Z is their status as true digital natives. They were born into a world where the internet, smartphones, and social media were already integral parts of daily life. This deep-seated familiarity with technology has equipped them with a set of skills and perspectives that are invaluable in our rapidly evolving digital landscape. Gen Z’s tech-savviness is not just limited to using apps or navigating social media; they are also adept at understanding the underlying technology. Many Gen Z individuals are passionate about coding, programming, and other tech-related fields. This generation’s affinity for technology is a driving force behind innovation, and we can expect them to continue pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in fields like artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and biotechnology.

Furthermore, their online presence has amplified their ability to raise awareness about important social and environmental issues. Gen Z has used platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok to mobilize social movements, advocate for climate change action, and promote social justice causes. Their collective voice and digital prowess are helping to accelerate

positive change in the world.

Generation Z brings a fresh perspective and a wealth of positive qualities to our world. These are just a few of the many assets that make them a force to be reckoned with. As Gen Z continues to come of age and shape the future, we can expect to see their impact in all areas of society. They promise to make the world a better place and enjoy themselves by doing so.
